She may be a former journalist, but Judy McGregor’s latest piece of writing, “Diary of a Carer”, is never going to rival Diary of a Wimpy Kid in the best-seller stakes. Which is a bit of shame, as it deserves a bigger audience than it is likely to get. The diary, which records McGregor’s experiences while working “undercover” earlier this year as a trainee carer in a residential aged-care hospital, is part of a 200-page report compiled by the Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner to highlight the plight of around 48,000 workers in the aged-care sector who are paid ...
