Right on with new give way rules

The day approaches when everyone turning to the right in New Zealand will have to give way to everyone else. John Banks excepted, of course. Until drivers get used to the new law, we can expect intersections to be a melee of flashing lights, most of them caused by the brake pedal. Just be grateful the change didn’t come in those days when signalling meant extending your corporeal arm out the window. You still get some hand signals today, and it’s appropriate in an age of minimalism that they usually involve only one finger. But those of us old enough to use joined-up letters in our handwriting ...
