Easter was spent in rural Hawke’s Bay, making a pleasant change from our usual life in the city. We got the chance to see and hear rain falling on grass rather than asphalt. It may have been the most appalling summer and soggy autumn that many of us urbanites can remember, but the farmers are happy. The hills, normally khaki-coloured at this time of year, are lush and green. Vintners and anyone reliant on crops are less pleased, watching their fruit rot and wither in the endless deluge.
