A hard act to swallow on New Zealand’s Got Talent

It was a disorienting night in the hall of mirrors we call modern life. TV1’s new iteration of New Zealand’s Got Talent featured Andre Vegas. This provided one of a few moments of déjà vu. He’s the illusionist who did quite well on Prime’s 2008 version of the show. His slightly disturbing act involved a psycho (Vegas), a nightmarish hulk called Bubba and a scantily clad victim. She got chainsawed in half. Which is, really, what happened to TV1’s Sunday. The channel’s “flagship” current affairs show has been chopped in half to make way for jugglers, sword swallowers ...
