It’s easy to be cynical about another hyperbolic, eye-wateringly pricey Olympic Games opening ceremony. Actually, it isn’t. Not when you’re the only one in the house up watching it live(ish) on Prime and, five minutes in, tears are already dripping into your muesli. The spectacle had the heartstrings twanging like a sitar in a random Danny Boyle Bollywood finale. The hopeful piping voices of children singing something old-fashioned and of only elliptical relevance to synchronised swimming and beach volleyball will do that to you every time.
