There is nothing more boring than listening to radio news reports of other cities' transport problems, until you go there and get stuck yourself. Suddenly, it becomes much more interesting. Last week, I spent several hours in cars going nowhere in Auckland. After landing at Auckland Airport at 7.30am, I hopped into a cab with two colleagues and an hour and a half later we were still trying to get into the central city. At one point, after the cab driver mentioned that we would soon turn onto the motorway at Newmarket, I thought that we would begin moving at 100kph. But no! It simply meant that ...
