US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was blunt: “We are in a competition for influence with China. Let’s put aside the humanitarian, do-good side of what we believe in. Let’s just talk straight realpolitik. We are in competition with China.” Clinton then added, “We have a lot of support in the Pacific Ocean region. A lot of those small countries have voted with us in the United Nations.
