Certainly it’s memorable. But “1, 2, 3, 4” is probably not the best bet for a PIN – not least because, according to a study by Data Genetics blogger Nick Berry, it is the most popular four-digit personal identification number.
So popular, he found in an analysis of published, hacked or released password tables, that it amounts for about 11% of all PINs.
Next, at about 6%, is 1111.
Then 0000, 1212 and 7777.
Sixth is 1004.
Why 1004? Because in Korean, “when spoken, ‘1004’ is cheonsa”, and “cheonsa also happens to be the Korean word for ‘Angel’”.
Last year, another outfit released a list of the most popular online passwords. The top six, via Mashable, just so you know:
1. password.
2. 123456
3.12345678.
4. qwerty.
5. abc123.
6. monkey.
