HBO presents: The Commonwealth

Most social media chatter around the Nelson Mandela memorial imagery has centred on the controversial so-called (wrongly called) Barack Obama selfie with his counterparts from the UK and Denmark.

But spare a minute to lose yourself in this gathering of three of the “five eyes” prime ministers, Tony Abbott of Australia, Stephen Harper of Canada and John Key of New Zealand, meeting for breakfast in a Johannesburg eatery before the service.

Isn’t it something? Posted on John Key’s Twitter feed, it’s like an arresting still from an essential new HBO series.

Given Key’s record with social media photographs, it’s even more astonishing.

What are they discussing? Which is most the most Mandelaesque? The TPP? The Snowden leaks?

Or are Abbott and Harper castigating Key for being a namby-pamby pinko lefty?

Harper tweeted his own version.

Meanwhile, the New York Daily News puts our guy in his place
