If you see Chris Cleave at any of his forthcoming appearances in New Zealand, there’s a chance you will come away knowing a bit more about bicycles than you’d bargained for. “You have to be a performer when talking about your new novel these days,” says Cleave, who when you meet him appears far too mild-mannered to make a public exhibition of himself. “Particularly in America.
