Weaver of magic, wearer of wigs, Mahy lives on in thousands of homes in New Zealand and elsewhere, her pages wrinkled from reading after reading.

Here is Graham Beattie’s tribute.

Here is Kate De Goldi’s 2008 profile of Mahy for the Listener.

The NZ Book Council has a reservoir of material about and by Mahy, and links beyond.

Here is her essay “A Dissolving Ghost: Possible Operations of Truth in Children’s Books and the Lives of Children”.

Here are the Margaret Mahy pages from Christchurch City Libraries.

A set of Margaret Mahy images from the Digital NZ collection.

Here is Kim Hill’s last interview with Mahy, from 2008:

Geoff Robinson speaks to Jack Lasenby about Mahy’s life and work:

Kathryn Ryan in conversation with author and Mahy biographer Tessa Duder, and the Children’s Bookshop’s John McIntyre.

And below, via NZ On Screen, from 2004, is an excerpt from the Made in New Zealand documentary about the woman who had always wanted “to make imagined scenarios real”.

Finally, also via NZ On Screen, watch this.

Takoto mai, e kuia, kia tangihia koe e ō iwi. Auē! Ka mau te punga here o te waka nei. Ka ngaro koe, te kaituhituhi, te kākākura o roto i te pōkai, te puhi o Aotearoa, te kura whakahirahira o Te Waipounamu, te mauri o te whenua, te mauri o te tangata, haere! Haere rā! (TP 7/1906:9) / Lie in state to be wept over by your people. Oh, dear! The anchor of this canoe is taken. You are gone, the writer, the leader of the flock, the adored one of the North Island, the important treasure of the South Island, the life force of the land and the people. Depart! Farewell!
