Django Unchained

Django Unchained: brutal.

THE IMPOSSIBLE
Drawn-out, predictable and culturally self-centred, but there are oases of compassion and the tsunami effects are spectacular. Just as well they’re not 3D. 3/5

PARANORMAN
Freaky fun with zombies and ghosts, plus character charm and animation artwork that delights. 3/5

WHOLE LOTTA SOLE
Too many characters and plotlines drain away the menace of this ultimately silly hostage dramedy. 2.5/5

YOU WILL BE MY SON
Niels Arestrup impresses as a French winemaker whose obdurate, controlling treatment of those around him is a dark shadow among the vines. 3/5

DJANGO UNCHAINED
An engine of righteous anger drives Tarantino’s lacerating – I use the word deliberately – Western/blaxploitation take on slavery. A brutal, bloody, crazy flipside to Lincoln. 4/5
