1 Even the many people who have read THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING, Joan Didion’s 2005 memoir of the 12 months after the unexpected death of her husband, fellow writer John Gregory Dunne, should try to see the New Zealand premiere of her stage adaptation. Didion “re-imagined” the events in the book for the purposes of the one woman play, and did so from the perspective of having now also lost her daughter, Quintana, and knowing she had nonetheless survived both deaths.
