With the passing of time, we have a better perspective on Christchurch’s CBD rebuilding prospects. The sheer scale is clearer, with some 85% – over 800 buildings covering a 40ha business area – destined for demolition. Last month, when I was shown through by the Christchurch Central Development Unit of Cera, it seemed about half had already been reduced to vacant lots.
