The most effusive praise for the All Blacks’ performance against the Wallabies at Eden Park came from Australian coach Robbie Deans, who virtually threw in the towel while deeming it “a master class”. The consensus was that Deans was covering his backside: extravagantly talking up the All Blacks in the hope of taking the focus off his team’s failings and dissuading his dwindling band of supporters across the Tasman from boarding the “Deans Must Go” bandwagon.
