Is boxing becoming the athletic equivalent of writing fiction? Just as everyone supposedly has one novel in them, so boxing seems to be the sport anyone can play. The recent “Godfather of All Fight Nights” in Auckland featured a number of non-boxers in a number of non-events. That wasn’t surprising since, for the celebrities taking part, the “fights” were just a means to an end. Given the brazen hucksterism that pervaded the evening, it’s hardly worth mentioning that these ends were self-promotional, if not commercial.
