My admiration for dictionary makers is boundless. Like dictionary makers, I have to compose definitions (the straightforward bits of the clue), but I can be totally irresponsible with them. Unlike definitions by the lexicographical drudges, crossword clue definitions don't have to be definitive. They are sometimes little more than the synonyms one can get from any thesaurus.
