SATURDAY JUNE 23 Spider-Man (TV2, 7.30pm). Sam Raimi’s choice of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man was a bit of a game-changer in the world of comic-book adaptations. Reportedly, the studio wanted someone more athletic, but Raimi kept to Stan Lee’s original character by making Peter Parker a science dweeb, the bespectacled bookworm who becomes a superhero (just as Andrew Garfield is in this year’s version). The movie is essentially Spider-Man’s backstory – how he was created, where the costume came from, etc, and Raimi keeps it low-key ...
