If you’re planning to visit Asia, you must be prepared to eat rice, because it turns up at every meal. On my recent travels in Northern Thailand, I learnt the word khao means both rice and food. As a greeting, Thais will say, “Gin khao reu yung?” This is their way of saying “hello”, but the literal translation is “Have you eaten rice yet?” Rice grows in every region of Thailand.
