  It’s a searingly cold Berlin day – minus 15 in the sun – and I’m reeling home from dental surgery. The chic streets of Prenzlauer Berg are almost deserted. The air is so cold it hurts to breathe. Through watering eyes, I spot the circular “coffee” sign of the Antipodes Cafe. The dentist has forbidden caffeine for 24 hours – but I cross the road anyway.
