Fancy an affordable gold medal wine? The cheapest gold medal whites at this year's Air New Zealand Wine Awards are Satellite Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 ($16.95), produced by Spy Valley, and Spring Creek Estate Marlborough Riesling 2009 ($15.90), from a company with links to Hunter's. By far the lowest-priced gold medal red is Mission Hawke's Bay Syrah 2009 ($16). The Air New Zealand Wine Awards, organised by the industry itself, is the country's most prestigious wine competition (although the results of the New World Wine Awards, run by Foodstuffs on behalf of New World supermarkets ...
