We opened a decent bottle of Aussie red last week – Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2006. Dark, sturdy and flavour-packed, it was a deeply satisfying wine, and the classy 2009 vintage, now on the shelves, is a “steal” at its average price of $28. No wonder New Zealand imports so much rich red wine from Australia – some in bulk, but equivalent to over 18 million bottles a year. They need our support.
