It’s a cliché to describe a winemaker as the “prince of pinot noir” (or a “king of cabernet”), but Nick Mills, of Rippon Vineyard at Wanaka, is certainly producing regal reds. His latest releases rank among this country’s most absorbing pinot noirs. If medals were handed out for the beauty of New Zealand winery settings, a gold would surely go to Rippon.
