I’m just curious as to whether the people who mistakenly went to the polls today were the same as those who made the pilgrimage to ground zero in New York on November 9th?

I can see we are down to some serious policy debate now. Tweets from the NZ Herald website:

“No Country for Old Men: The Sequel, starring: Winston Peters, Don Brash, and Peter Dunne.”

Kate Hawkesby comments: “Peter Dunne’s hair! Hone Harawira’s buttoned-up shirt. Tariana’s chiffon poncho. Stop it.”

Omg. Once again we have our potential leaders tripping over their facts and figures.

John doesn’t know who will get into bed with Labour; and Phil doesn’t know his 1 +1 tables.

I can see tomorrow’s headlines now. A frenzy of LMAO.

But I agree – Winston & Hone do make for a volatile and unstable pairing. I wouldn’t invite them to my party!

Hey Toby. Check out Michael Laws opinion column in the SSTimes. Beautiful, “thoughtful”, journalist statements such as:

    - “there exists a uniform inability within the Fourth Estate to understand proportion and excess.” Amen to that.

    - The media “have whipped themselves into a frenzy of foaming frippery about … what exactly?”

    - “Duncan Garner offers his transcript to … Don Brash to view like some dirty postcard salesman.”

    - “To Mark Jennings and his TV3 News staff, the tape is their favourite pornography. Their reaction has been masturbatory throughout.”

Talk about painting vivid images of the media in the mind of the reader.

Will TV3 survive this attack on their integrity? Or will they whip themselves into a frenzy of foaming frippery once again?.

We keenly await the final days of count down to the election.

Pity the newspaper review (11.00am) doesn’t mention the excellent column in the SST (page C13) from Jon Johansson on the referendum and his thoughts on how voters might approach the two questions offered. It is the simplest and clearest explanation I’ve found on what you might do with your second referendum vote if your first one opts to retain MMP.

Toby, you say “hardly a grilling”. Well, no surprise there (TVNZ ‘journalism’ is a very good reason not to own a tv). It wouldn’t surprise me if Monsieur Espiner became press secretary for a National minister – excuse any presumption – after the election (maybe the PM’s office?), as would Mike Hosking (if he could stomach Wellington) after listening to him pontificate on privacy this morning in a the-law-should-never-ever–be-broken defence (RNZ’s Mediawatch). Also interesting on Mediawatch was lambasted Aussie journalist Ean Higgins – of PIke River fame – on the difference ee Australian & NZ journalists, and how the Aussie media would probably publish transcripts of the ‘teapot tapes’. I also agree re Plunket & Garner as being the types that should be on the panel.

Forgive me but I’ve yet to catch up with your submissions of the last few days, but has anyone asked the Prime Minister what he and John Banks talked about: I imagine they have as it’s an easy ask, & I imagine it was brushed off with ‘it was a private conversation’-type response. But what of the question: did you and Mr Banks talk about anything that is of significant public interest esp. that may influence how people vote? If so, what was it??
